Listen Sandy is an audio installation project that uses pay phones around New York and New Jersey as a sort of time capsule to remind us of our thoughts, reflections, and realizations during the hurricane. It was created by Nikki Sylianteng and Guri Venstad, Interaction Design students at the School of Visual Arts. You can read more about the project here.
WHY PAY PHONES?
During the week of Sandy, we remember how odd it was to see people using pay phones again. Pay phones, to us, became a symbol of the things we normally take for granted, and thought it was a good representation of the reflections and realizations we’ve gotten so far.
WHERE DO THE STORIES LIVE?
Each payphone carries one reflection. We are currently accepting stories so please follow the instructions to the right to participate. When you contribute, you will have the choice of which payphone you want your story to live in. Please stay tuned as we add more payphones to this list.
